Stichting FLAT is an initiative of a group of residents of the Bijlmer consisting of artists, curators, designers, scientists and musicians who live in studio apartments of the flat Florijn. From different disciplines and backgrounds, they work together realizing various projects in the area of the Bijlmer which functions as a source of inspiration.

FLATSTATION is located at Florijn 42 and it shares the the space with the residency-program BijlmAIR. Because of this success, the cooperation between the FLAT foundation, Rochdale and Bureau Broedplaatsen (Municipality of Amsterdam) is being intensified. In 2009 FLAT foundation contained 15 households.
FLAT will grow to 20 households in 2010.

FLAT started in 2003 when a group of graduates of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy moved into the studio apartments in the flat Florijn. At that point the housing cooperation Rochdale had trouble to rent out these apartments that where empty for a long time. The FLAT concept however worked out very well. It is a solid group of professional artists who, from time to time, work together, share a social life and form a creative force and network in the neighbourhood.
